Week 54 – General Conference

I also loved Pres. Eyring story about his son jumping on the bed. The gospel gives us an eternal perspective on every aspect on our lives, but especially parenting I think. Our knowledge of the plan of salvation and who everyone really is gives us more responsibility and more joy. Conference in the mission is like Christmas 🙂 May I just mention that the non-scriptural references made in conference include: Les Miserables, Shakespeare (King Lear), Jane Austen (Emma), C.S. Lewis, and Star Wars. Besides the Star Wars (I´m not the hugest fan), my good taste is always confirmed by the General Authorities 🙂

The general themes I noticed throughout the conference was the trinity and our relationship to them, and having joy and cheerfulness (also connected to faith). Oftentimes we talk about the people´s need for the gospel because of how bad these last days are but we do not need to scare investigators into applying the gospel. What we say is true, but we can still be more optimistic about life and how blessed we are to have the fullness of the restored gospel to share. I love Pres. Uctdorf and E. Holland´s attitude. During the Sunday afternoon session the signal went out in the chapel where we were, so we watched it through a sketchy youtube feed. I got the idea but it was in Spanish and shaky connection. I can´t wait to read the Priesthood session too when it comes.

Good news about the outhouse! haha I love that you get excited about that kind of thing. It´s going to be beautiful up there.

It´s almost Holy Week here so we´re excited to see all the Catholic processions and parties. We´ve already seen a few and tried some typical Easter food 🙂 F. Rivera (Rosi, Eric, Peter, Tito, and Tati) all went to conference yesterday! They seemed to like it. Rosi fought with her boyfriend that is in the US about joining the church. He´s very against it. He financially supports her here so she told us that she might not be able to get baptized or they´d be destitute. Trial of faith….but something like this always seems to happen. I want to convince her to do it sneakily…how could he find out unless someone told him? Would that be bad to do?

I was waiting for the news of when Kamber was coming home…cool. Honestly, when I get home, I just want to go to the cabin 🙂 Maybe a small get together later on Sunday or something would be nice. I´ll just want to be with you guys, especially that first night. I´ll shower, look in the fridge and cupboards and cry because we´re so blessed, marvel a little bit about how nice our house is, then just hang out with you all.

Congrats Sam Johnson! When is Jared coming back? Can you send some pictures of Sierra, Cody, Ryker, Meagan, and all my budds from back home? My comp wants to see who I´m always talking about 🙂 Thanks

Love you lots,

Week 53 – Women’s Conference

I wish I could have heard your performance as well. I love that music.

I´m excited for the cabin. Send pictures of the progress. I can just picture us having family reunions up there all the time. I hope I can live close enough to do it more than once a year. It´s still my favorite place in the world.

There´s not much to report for this week. Thank you for taking care of my FAFSA for me, I appreciate it.

I´m trying not to be baggy. I can´t help but think of those things at night and on Monday, but I never let it get in the way I work or my focus when I´m working. You´re not baggy if you´re working just as hard, right? 🙂

Thank you so much for doing that for me. I wasn´t expecting that, honestly, but that makes me so happy!! 🙂 I know exactly where that apartment is; that´s a good spot. I´m getting super excited…ahhh!

This week, the secretary called me to ask which airport I wanted to arrive at…that was a surprise. I´ll be traveling ALL day haha. I still have 4 months which is a lot of time…too much time to think about it all too much. I´m still working hard and enjoying myself.

I had a nice experience during the Women´s Conference. When the sister was describing the story of Mary and Martha (Martha keeping busy with house stuff while Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus). I just thought about if I had the opportunity to sit and listen to Him, or even just meet Him. In that moment, I felt a confirmation of my testimony of the Atonement. I can´t wait to meet Him in the flesh on that great day and just hug Him.

We´re struggling a little bit with the usual problem, getting people to come to Sacrament meeting, but we still have very promising people and everything is all good at the end of the day.

I love you all. Take care!

P.S. The photo is of my companion carrying a huge jug of water on her head like all the women do here. I´ve done it many times too; it actually doesn´t hurt. It´s when you carry firewood on your head that gives you a headache 🙂

Week 52 – Relief Society Anniversary

So, this week had it´s fun parts and it´s disappointments.

The cool things first. Tuesday was the Relief Society Anniversary party. We dressed up as pioneers and taught pioneer games and dances. The photo is with a cute old lady in the ward that dressed up. She´s one of my favorites. They had a piñata too and all the women got a little crazy hitting it and grabbing all the candy while their little children watched haha. We also made cute little pioneer dolls out of clay (the other photo).

Wednesday we went to San Salvador to renew our residency here. I got to eat fake chinese food in the capital. It was good to see everyone that we came with again. I got to see my brother from another mother, Elder Nasilai (remember him?). He says hi and that he still has your card that you sent him in the MTC. In more good news, he has officially decided to play football for BYU! Wahoo.

I miss March Madness! Have fun watching all the games 🙂

I went on a interchange to an area in the middle of nowhere in the mountains 🙂 I love those areas. It´s called Nahuízalco. Have fun trying to say that haha. The only way for them to get around is piling in the back of a pickup truck. I felt like cattle, but it was an interesting cultural experience.

The sad thing from this week is that Dalila and Eduardo couldn´t come to church so they can´t get baptized this Saturday. But we keep working and don´t get discouraged. We still have a lot of people working towards baptism and this area is really blessed. This week is changes and I don´t think I´ll leave. Looks like I´ll be staying here for a total of 6 months!

The new mission president´s name is President Kelley. They´re from Utah and they´re coming at the end of June. I´ll just have a month with them.

Love you all. Take care.

Week 51 – Character’s

Congrats to Seth and Sam. How long will you be doing performances for Lamb of God? or how many performances are there?

That´s a great story. I usually enjoy whatever situation makes people uncomfortable. Speaking of uncomfortable things, I met a Mr. Collins here. His name is Morris and he´s in the High Priests. He´s been married and divorced 5 times. He´s “in charge” of the missionary work so he now acts like he´s our boss but very obviously is trying to manage us through his “talent” for flattery and sweet talk haha. Yesterday, I was playing the piano for Sacrament meeting and after the intermediate hymn he approached the piano (in front of the whole ward in the middle of the meeting) and said in his normal voice, “How well you play the piano Sis. Morse! Such great talent! Will it be you or your companion that counts the Sacrament meeting attendance?”. By the way, we were secretly supposed to count attendance because the stake president asked that of us. Everyone, especially the bishop, was on edge for a second, watching. I just said, “Thank you, I´ll talk to you after the meeting.” and I went to sit down. Nice, but curt response to his impertinence. I meet plenty of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens characters here 🙂

I promise not to be too trucky! Here they say “baggy”. Today I have 14 months on the mission!

REAGAN. so old. What happened to the twig that didn`t wear makeup? Just kidding, she looks great and so grown up. The boys too. I miss you guys and glad to hear that everyone is staying busy.

Love you all. Enjoy the cool weather; I`d love to take a swan dive into some snow right now, especially in this really humid, hot internet cafe I`m in right now haha.

I`m enjoying it though, and I`m happy. God works in the details but they bring about great things.

Week 50 – Radio

Just remember to always do the important little things and take the time to de-stress. Have peace 🙂 I wish I could hear Lamb of God too!

This week our stake president made us help him make a recording for his English class. Us and our zone leaders, who are both gringos as well, had to record ourselves reading scripted conversations. Afterwards, the guy that was running the recording studio liked my voice and told us that he was developing a radio station for the school. He wanted to use my voice for a jingle or something so he had me say a lot of other random things like fake airport announcements. So I might be going on the El Salvador Auachapan FM radio in a month of two. Never thought I´d be doing that in the mission. It was weird.

I´m sorry, I don´t have pictures or any good stories this week. We did find a cool new family that are so gonna be baptized it´s not even funny. Especially the 18 year old son Eric is super positive. He said that he had working in a Catholic church for a while and left, then was about to get baptized in another Christian church but it didn´t feel right. He prayed one night that God would lead him to the true church and the next day, we showed up! Yayaya. We don´t always have to know that we´re recieving revelation when we are. We´re being guided all the time and only sometimes we get to find out afterward. The Lord is directing His work!

Can´t wait to see you in May, then in July 🙂

Love you all!
